Mercedes Benz GL - “It’s Ready”
I’ve been wanting to post this tv commercial for the new Mercedes GL for a while, but just never got around to it.
I like it. It’s funny. Here it is:

Does anyone know who the narrator (voice) is in the Mercedes GL commercial?

The voice sounds vaguely familiar. I think he’s a washed up actor in Hollywood. Must not be that famous or I’d probably remember his name.

That’s Richard Thomas — aka John-Boy formerly of “The Walton’s”.

It is Richard Thomas - check wikepedia for all the details - he’s really not “washed up” and he’s actually rather famous. Our perspective may be the difference in our ages - I am 54.

Thank you guys, I’ve been trying to figure it out who was that voice. Yes, it’s R. Thomas.

I just knew it was Richard Thomas (John Boy). I recognized him the first time I heard one of the commercials. I thought can I find out on the net??
Yes! Thanks.

you know I just heard the commercial again and said is the John-Boy….and then said I wonder if I can look that up on the web? So i did and I was shocked to find that other people wondered the same thing????? Is this weird? Or are we just very inquisitive people:)

This has been driving me nuts because I pride myself in figuring these things out… but here I am, looking it up! I knew it was familiar, from an old television show, but that the voice had aged so it wasn’t exactly the voice that would lead to the “aha!” Now that I know, I wish I hadn’t looked. Sort of like getting a rare book through an internet bookseller rather than waiting until you find the gem in an actual used book store, even if it takes years.
I think it’s all his theater work that makes him a “fit” for Mercedes, probably more known to the East Coast market than here in California.

OMG I thought so! I finally thought to check the net and I was right. Go John-Boy!

Doesn’t he have, like, 50,000 children?

hey, has anyone seen the 1980s mercedes commercial, where a newly married couple is gifted a mercedes and they drive around on beautiful mountains for a while until their car stops. they call the mercedes helpline, and the agent asks them to check a few things and they say everything is fine. then he asks them if they filled fuel in the car, since it was a new car and they dont deliver it with a full tank. they check the meter and the fuel is empty and they ask him how did it run for so long if it was out of fuel.
the agent replies, thats mercedes for you; it runs several kilometres only on reputation.
would anyone know how to find this one?

I recognized his voice immediately too, but it has just as much to do with seeing him star in the touring version of “12 Angry Men” about two weeks ago.
He certainly wasn’t “washed up” - and even my high school seniors thought he was excellent! (Gotta’ love field trips.)

The voice sound like an old actor who has passed away. His name was Fred McMurray of My Three Sons and various movies. Maybe he has a relative doing the commercial

I WAS TOLD THE VOICE BELONGS TO A MR. HINES. I DID NOT GET HIS FIRST NAME. THIS INFO GIVEN TO ME BY HIS FATHER EDWARD HINES

I may not remember names and faces right away, but I have a way with voices. I told my husband it was Richard Thomas! Now, what about the Johnsonville Brauts commercial? Is it Jim Belushi?

I knew right away as well it was R Thomas . I remember all to well him reading his journal writings at the end of The Waltons with his very distinct voice .
August 1st, 2008 at 7:05 am
It’s not Richard Thomas, nor Fred MacMurray nor anyone named Mr. Hines!
It’s Stephen Schnetzer - AKA Cass Winthrop from Another World who then moved over to As The World Turns, not to mention many Law & Order episodes. (view his photo here: http://www.theatermania.com/news/images/7686a.jpg )
No mistaking his voice! I can see how someone might think it’s R. Thomas, but I hung on every word Cass ever said when I was a teenager watching Another World - It’s unmistakably the voice of Stephen Schnetzer!
Decide for yourself! Listen to hs voice in an 8-minute clip from one of the Another Worls episodes on YouTube here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jqLRxlSlllk

The voice also sounds somewhat like Bryant Gumble. Doesn’t it????
August 25th, 2008 at 2:29 am
I recognized the voice immediately as well. (as “John Boy”). I have very fond memories of “The Waltons” tv show.
Can you imagine that show used to be a PRIME TIME tv favorite?
My….how far we’ve fallen……the garbage that’s consumed today.

It IS Stephen Schnetzer. It does sound very much like Richard Thomas and even like Fred McMurray but it is Schnetzer.
